Mission Impact 2025
Honored Brothers
Where Light Renews Spirit
by Irene Murray, RN, MSN
District Health Care Coordinator
Nursing staff who care for our senior Brothers gathered for a retreat grounded
in the Brothers’ tradition: education as lived ministry.
Together, they reflected on renewal—a word that carries profound meaning
for caregivers who give so much each day. There are many sources of renewal,
but one of the most powerful is fire. Just as controlled burning clears away
what no longer serves and allows new growth to flourish, a candle’s flame
burns away our weariness and renews our spirit with its steady light.
The retreat began with the Brothers’ prayer: “Let us remember we are in the
holy presence of God.” Then each nurse lit a candle.
Each flame became a reminder: every encounter with a Brother is an encounter
with God’s presence. Every gentle touch, every patient conversation, every
act of dignity—are sacred moments where heaven meets earth. For those
who serve in community, hospital, or hospice, this reframed everything—their
work is not only caregiving; it is sacred ministry.
Just as education embodies lived ministry for the Brothers, their care is holy
work. When nursing staff serve with love, Christ is present.
“ The nurses’ retreat allowed us time to connect with each other
and reflect on the many gifts of our unique ministry. I left the retreat
feeling reenergized in our mission of caring for the Brothers,
who continue to have an impact on countless numbers of people,
well beyond their time in the classroom.” –Katrina Denegri, RN, MS
