Essential St. George High School Insights, Delivered Twice a Year
Welcome Dragons to
this special edition of the
St. George High School
Alumni Bulletin! This
year is extra special. The
Dragons are celebrating
80 years of Alumni
Gatherings, a milestone
that speaks to the
enduring spirit of the
St. George community.
As we’ve gathered over the years,
we’re reminded of the bonds that
were formed at 350 Sherman Avenue:
the hallways of faith, friendship,
and Dragon pride. A legacy that has
held true. This issue spotlights the
2025 Golf Outing and the beloved
annual Saints & Sinners gathering.
St. George High School is the place
where the Dragon spirit was born.
Nestled in Evanston, Illinois, the
all-boys Catholic school opened
in 1927 under the guidance of the
De La Salle Christian Brothers.
With just 152 freshmen, the school’s
first year was modest yet brimming
with potential.
The Christian Brothers, known
for their dedication to education,
infused more than academics into
St. George’s DNA. Early on, they
founded the yearbook The Georgian,
the school newspaper The Dragon,
a dramatic society, a band,
debate club—building a sense of
community that transcended the
classroom. As the years passed,
the school grew into a flourishing
institution with modern science labs,
a gym, a cafeteria—even a tiled
swimming pool.
St. George was more than its
infrastructure: its heartbeat loudest
in its athletics. The Dragons
competed fiercely in football,
baseball, basketball, boxing, track,
and golf. In cross-country, they
dominated for years. Their athletic
legacy was stellar.
As decades passed, the alumni of
St. George stayed deeply connected,
even after the school closed its
doors in 1969. The building was gone,
but the Dragon spirit endured—in
memories, in reunions, and in annual
gatherings.
Whether you are an active alum or
reconnecting for the first time in years,
we hope you find joy, memories, and
inspiration in these pages.
